White Bass Gear for Utah Lake (Simple Lures + Ultralight Setup)
A practical Utah Lake white bass kit: spoons, small jigs, soft plastics, a simple ultralight rod/reel/line setup, and a few “worth it” extras — with Amazon links.
The fast-start lure kit
White bass are one of the best “get bites now” species at Utah Lake. This kit is built for casting from shore, covering water, and staying fishing in wind.
- Casting spoon (Kastmaster-style), 1/8–1/4 oz
- Small jig heads, 1/16–1/8 oz
- 2–3" curly tail grubs / paddle tails (white + chartreuse)
- Inline spinners (size 1–2)
If you only buy one thing: start with a 1/8–1/4 oz spoon and cover water.
Simple ultralight setup
- Ultralight/light spinning rod, ~6'–7' (shore friendly)
- Size 1000–2500 spinning reel (smooth drag)
- Line: 6–10 lb braid + 6–8 lb mono/fluoro leader (optional)
- Small snap swivels (for spoons, helps prevent twist)
You can absolutely catch white bass on your “normal” bass/walleye setup. Ultralight just makes it more fun and casts small lures better.
